Rotted siding can take a little while to discover.  This is because exterior grade paints can seal in the moisture, causing the wood to rot from behind the paint.  Usually you don't realize there is rot until you push your finger through a soft spot in the siding.

This is what we commonly refer to as "structural paint failure".

Where do you ypically find this type of rot?

  1. Where painted siding comes into ground contact at the home's perimeter
  2. At the siding below a leaking or clogged gutter
  3. Adjacent to a poor flashing installation
  4. Poorly installed windows
  5. A painted deck surface
