Idylwood Park Boathouse
Each year, Tenhulzen Remodeling provides a service to the community as seen on our Community Commitments page. In the early summer of 2005, our entire staff volunteered to assemble the replica of a boathouse which existed in the 1940's and '50's at the Idylwood Park site. Below is a progression of photos that highlights the building of this structure which now proudly covers the picnic tables in the center of the playground.
The plans were drawn up by a summer intern in our architecture department. Lumber was partially donated by one of our primary suppliers. Metal connectors were custom made by one of our local steel fabricators. The entire structure was built after work hours and on weekends.
Plugging holes and sanding and staining the wood components was necessary to ensure a quality look and to protect the boathouse from the elements. The deadline for completion was Redmond Derby Days 2005. The structure was set up for display to serve as our company booth and double as a bit of shade from the early July heat.
Setting up for display at Derby Days required a crane. Wine Valley Siding supplied a flatbed truck which easily transported and set the large trusses. With 2 ladders, 2 drills and 4 on the ground supporting the columns, the entire structure was set up in 1½ hours.
Final set up was scheduled for the following Monday, so the completed structure pictured in the center was neatly covered with a tarp for a roof and put on display for the Derby Days event. Disassembly, transport and reassembly took 4 hours. The City of Redmond supplied the roof for its final position at Idylwood Park.
